    Description

    Fresh out of an early Maine estate collection.
    Circa 1930-40's. After W.J. Aylward. The SS.Bremen passing the Fire Island lightship, a company poster in colors.
    Measures approximately 26' x 17". mounted on board.  Some tears in left border area,
    some staining in top area. Original and period.
    William James Aylward (1875-1956) was an American writer  and illustrator who developed an early interest in things nautical in part due to his father who built and owned Great Lakes ships. He also illustrated magazine articles for
    Harper's
    and
    Scribner's
    .
    The North German Lloyd line was a German shipping company founded in 1857. The Bremen was placed in service in 1929.
