    Description

British Model 1895 Bayonet with Scabbard for the Martini-Enfield Rifle.
Blade is in excellent condition, with no active corrosion and scattered light pitting. No bends, cracks or breaks, the entire bayonet is structurally and functionally sound. The socket and shank have moderate to heavy pitting damage, though no active corrosion remains. It has been cleaned up and lightly blued up to and including the ricasso as per the original specification
Marks include the specified “R” over a Broad Arrow with the arrow designating release by the War Department. Ricasso has another Proof mark (crown over 60) and a date of 6/89 (June 1889).
Scabbard is in excellent condition given the age. The leather is completely intact, with no loose or missing sutures. The leather remains soft and supple. Both the brass topmount with teardrop frog stud and the brass chape are in good condition, with only a few bumps and dings. The topmount bears the WD over broad arrow and crown over E over 39, denoting manufacture by Enfield. The chape also bears the WD and broad arrow stamp (war department release).
    Nice set.
