Description
Eastern White Cedar ShinglesHaving fewer tannins than their western red counterparts, the magic of eastern white cedar shingles is their beautiful flat grain and ability to absorb stain for a truly elegant look.
This product is exceptional for sidewalls, gables and any other architectural accent, and are often specified by architects and high-end homebuilders.
Eastern white shingles come rebutted and rejointed for ease of installation. This means that the ends and the sides of the shingle are very consistent and even. Unlike their Western Red cousins, eastern white shingles are only acceptable as a sidewall material, not a roofing product.
Grades
Eastern white shingles are not graded in the same way as western red shingles, however the quality of Maibec’s shingles is exceptional. The shape of the 16″ shingle is identical to the western red, but the wood grain and pattern is entirely different.
Maibec offers two grades of shingles:
Chatham (Previously called Nantucket) – A high-grade product with knots above the install line.
Bar Harbor – A more rustic, tight-knot natural look.
H2BO Treatment
Maibec's H2BO bleaching stain treatment is an excellent option when you want a consistent long-term look for your home. The H2BO stain will help the shingles age to an even silver color faster than if left untreated, and will offer more protection for your shingles. They are wonderful for repair work on an existing building, or for new construction in harsh seaside environments.
Exposure
16″ Eastern White Shingles are installed at a 5″ exposure. All shingles must be installed according to Maibec’s specific guidelines to ensure a very long-lasting product. In addition, Maibec recommends adding 3% to any coverage calculation to ensure full coverage and cover any waste.
