Original WWII USS Sangamon Grouping Letters & Uniform Bullion PatchWWII USS Sangamon Grouping
Vintage original World War II grouping from a United States Navy Radioman who sailed aboard the USS Sangamon aircraft carrier. There are 129 letters along with 2 uniforms (a green dress coat with a bullion electrician rate patch, and a ruptured duck patch; and a khaki dress coat that has
large insect holes, soiling, and some insect damage on the patch as well.) The letters span the majority of his time in service starting April 1942 in Newport News then the last one being April of 1945 (which is right before the Sangamon was hit by kamikazes). The majority of the letters are of his time on the USS Sangamon which he served on throughout the war
including going to Operation Torch, Tarawa, Tulagi, Ulithi, Okinawa, etc. Most of the letters are usual what are you doing type letters, but there are several that tell about the war. Knowing he couldn't reveal locations he came up with a code to let his wife know where he was. It's a great
lot of letters. There are a few letters to other people not his wife, but 95% are to his wife. They are in good condition with some minor wear from age. It is a great grouping.
