n Very Good Condition with signs of rust on the Bayonet.  The Bayonet press Stud is functional. The Bayonet shows signs of wear and needs professional cleaning.
Rare British P1903 knife bayonet for the Mk1 III SMLE (Short Magazine Lee Enfield) rifle. The P1903 design combined the P1888 blade and crosspiece with a new pommel design. The P1903 had a short service life as the blade was considered not long enough and had less reach when combined with the shorter rifle. Produced for British from 1903-1907, at which time the P1907 was adopted.
The bayonet has a 12" steel blade which has a double edged unfullered blade with a medial ridge running from the ricasso to the blade tip
Stamped with the War Department broad arrow, EFD maker’s mark, bend test stamp and an Enfield inspection stamp. The obverse ricasso bears a crown and ER for King Edward VII, the pattern date, 1903 and the manufacture date of August 1903.  The Bayonet has a serial number of 621.
